Objectives

White Lightning was designed with turkey killing and hunter comfort in mind. Spectra Shot knows that clean, effective kills are a must. Nickel-plated lead is heavier than lead alone and still economical for use. It patterns extremely well and carries the necessary kinetic energy to a reasonable distance in order to dispatch that wary old gobbler. Several of the professional shooters asked for a load that would not punish and could be shot all day if necessary. These two facts are the basis for this now very competitive shell.

Details
Interestingly enough, this load is much smaller than the everyday loads on the shelves. White Lightning is only 1 and 5/8 ounces of nickel plated lead. This shot is super hard, moderately dense, and uniform in circumference. The powder is an all weather powder that will provide consistent patterns in the 20-90 degree temperature range. The powder is blended perfectly for a rolling, light recoil versus a quick slam to the shoulder. Speed is kept at a good pace as needed. The smaller payload allows for a tighter choke if you like to bring your restriction down to .650 or less.

Testing
White Lightning has been tested in a variety of conditions. First, it was tested in a controlled environment of 70 degree Farenheit temperatures with roughly 40 percent humidity. The testing in this environment boasted well with a variety of guns being used with a variety of after market choke tubes. At 40 yards within a 12 inch circle excellent pellet retention was obtained. A well distributed pattern and a pellet count as high as 36 within a 3 inch circle was produced once. In a non-controlled environment with a variety of factors including variances of temperatures and humidity, we were able to produce at 40 yards good/excellent pellet retention at 40 yards within a 12 inch circle. The tightest pattern showing 32 pellets in a three inch circle with good pattern distribution. Although there was really no “magical” gun/choke setup, all guns used and all chokes used showed evenly distributed patterns.

Competition
White Lightning was in use/tested during the NWTF 2012 Still Target Challenge. Several of the top competitors describe White Lightning as the best lead load on the market today, and the most economical load available for competition. The top competitors feel that the shell is quite comfortable to shoot, and that they would be using White Lightning moving forward.

Killing Power
White Lightning has taken multiple turkeys at multiple ranges. Fair and ethical harvesting of game is designed within this shell. Testing this shell across the US during the last couple of seasons yielded tremendous results within reasonable distances on the Eastern, Rio, Merriam, and Osceola turkey.

Shipping was fast and customer service was great. The loads patterned great and recoil wasn’t any worse than other turkey loads. 4 stars because I have shot a turkey yet so I don’t know how they penetrate. Will update review after taking a bird
